08/04/2007: "Sushi King"

I've heard nothing but good things about Sushi King from friends and blogs. The prices and quality of the food is great, so what can I lose right? Well apparantely a lot. I have visited Sushi King on three occasions, and all three occasions, I've had to deal with the horrible hostess. She is this older Japanese woman who runs around, I'm going to assume that she is the owner. I really hope she is the owner, because if she isn't, they have employed the worst hostess in the world. Yesterday definitely hit a chord with me, but besides her negativity, the restaurant itself is great. The wait staff are the most efficient and friendly! Let's get to the food shall we?

Of course every meal comes with green tea...

Full post and review...

Table setting...

Another close-up of the tea! This is great tea with roasted rice specks at the bottom!

Tsukemono...

A quick glance and you will mistake this for the run of the mill miso soup...

Oh, but there's so much more...

I'm pretty sure that's konnyaku right?...

Sushi King has some great lunch specials and late night specials! I've only been there for lunch. Connie got a sashimi and mini udon special ($11.95 USD).

Here is the sashimi. Doesn't that look great?? It was perfect, and you can get it with all ahi for only $2.75 USD more! This special also comes with of course the miso soup, tsukemono and a bowl or rice.

Here's the rice.

Here's what I got, the Chirashi Deluxe ($19.95 USD). I've been on a raw fish craze lately, and Chirashi definitely hits the spot for that. ...

Yum...fish eggs...

Another view to see the quality...

And another, just because I LOVED it.

Now here is the Salmon Katsu on Rice ($8.25 USD), it comes with miso soup, tsukemono, and your coice of california roll (6 pieces), inari (3 pieces) or Spicy Tuna (6 pieces - limited)...

Helicopter view....haha...I forgot! This also comes with salad! Linda enjoyed the salad very much so, she says the dressing is great (sesame based).

Here is the Salmon Katsu dissected. She said it was not dried out at all and tasted very good. I can see why this is a signature dish for this restaurant. Personally, I have never heard of salmon katsu before...but what a great idea! Almost anything katsu-ed will ensure the locking in of all the flavors and juices. Definitely recommended.

This time, feeling a little weak in the wallet, I decided to try the Chirashi Lunch Special ($13.45).

Close up of the rice, look at all that tobikko!

Yum...fresh sushi...

Fresh sashimi!

Here are some pictures from our venture yesterday. Linda got the Eel Teriyaki on Rice ($8.25 USD). She once again ordered the spicy tuna, and got all the same sides. I got a taste of the spicy tuna, it was okay. Strong taste of the Sriracha hot sauce so I'm not a big fan. Genki Sushi still owns my heart in that department.

This time, I got the combination lunch special ($11.45 USD). I ordered the sashimi and chicken karaage special. Here is a shot of the sashimi! Delicious! Looks like they change the sashimi contents from time to time. I definitely prefer hamachi over tako. smile

Closer look.

Sorry I forgot to take a picture of the entire dish. It came with about 5-6 pieces and a wedge of lemon to sprinkle on the chicken. Here is a piece of it, doesn't it look great? It was tendy and juicy.

All in all, the food and service is great. Don't get me wrong, you could go in and receive great service from this woman. It seemed like she had a personal agenda against me yesterday (If you want details, I can post them) but I won't be returning anytime soon because of her. They also have take-out, so you could take advantage of that! Their parking lot is pretty bad, they share the small lot with a lot of other shops. Beware if you plan on going during peak serving times.

Oh my god! $4.50 for miso soup?? That's insane! Glad I'm getting some support on this! ^_^

I've only eaten there twice and both times I felt completely robbed. One time it was just a small chat get together with friends so I ordered the miso soup with tofu and got charged $4.50!! I agree, the service is horrible.

the salmon katsu is fantastic! i certainly would order it again. it's unfortunate that they do not deliver as i am sure it would be a profit booster. the food is definitely worth the trip. the broth of the miso soup is great, but i'm not a fan of chunky vegetables in them. i've only ordered take out with them and never got to experience the dining aspect, but i'd give it a try someday.
