11/13/2007: "Hokkaido Ramen"
I truly love Kaimuki. Within a few blocks, you can find so many electic shops and restaurants...and this neighborhood shows no sign of slowing down! As Kristian and I was walking around one day, we happened upon Hokkaido Ramen. A quick glance at their menu peaked our interest in yet another Ramen shop to check out. So how did it all go? Read on and see...

Interior Hokkaido Ramen shot...
Combo A ($7.50 USD)
Up-close shot of the (very small) bowl of ramen. Hmm...the fuzziness of the picture seems to add a dream-like appearance huh?
We all dream of char siu right?
Fried rice in the combo, I didn't even remember to ask Kristian on his feedback on this. He didn't finish it though...
Gyoza, it's very good. You can also get it as a side to your entree for $2.15 USD. And, I know for a fact that it's homemade because if you have to use the restroom...you walk through the entire kitchen. I do not recommend it, please use the restroom before heading to this restaurant, haha...
I went for their namesake, Hokkaido ramen ($7.99 USD).
This is the ramen to get if you want all the toppings they offer in one bowl. Literally. If you plan on getting any extra toppings at all, might as well get this bowl! It's a good deal!
Looks pretty good right?
Obligatory noodle and chopstick shot. Okay, I think the Hokkaido Ramen was pretty good. I don't usually like Shoyu based ramen, but I may have masked the flavors with hot sauce. The ramen came with such great toppings that there is almost no way I could not enjoy it! But I was quite disappointed that once again, this is a Chinese run ramen shop. I'm still in search of a great authentic Japanese ramen shop. The title Hokkaido Ramen made me think that I would get some great specialty only found in Hokkaido, but it seems like restaurants just use city titles for the heck of it! It's really too bad...but the prices were definitely reasonable!

i'm laughing at one of the pictures. i think you know why.
anyway, if i remember correctly, their fried rice wasn't great. it lacked a lot of flavour and i would normally eat the onions in fried rice since it's normally small, but this one had like chunks of it. shoyu ramen is always awesome...but that's just me. haha.

Hey Nate! Thanks for the comment, good to know another customer's opinion. It's too bad it isn't a Shiro's anymore huh? But honestly, the food was pretty good.

My family goes there all the time since our house is in Waialae Kahala. Close by and it is not bad. I eat the shoyu ramen with charsiu. If I remember correctly my daughter has the mapo ramen. My son-in-law always has the tonkatsu curry combo, that comes with a small ramen and gyoza.
This place originally a Shiro's.
