01/12/2008: "Angelo Pietro"
I am back from Hilo! And looking back, I must say, it was a great trip! Great local grinds they have there, and I will share them with you soon! I think I would love to visit there again soon some day! I stayed at the Hawaii Naniloa Volcanoes Resort, and our room was quite nice. If you ever stay in that hotel, make sure you opt for the renovated rooms! Anyhoo, let's get back into the swing of things with new posts for the new year. Here is a recent visit I had at Angelo Pietro.

The restaurant's mascot? Angelo Pietro I presume?

Angelo Pietro Menu.
Angelo Pietro Specials! Take a closer look, they have a spicy ahi pasta! I have not yet tried it, but I am very tempted to. Has anyone tried it?
Fresh bread.
Mmm...buttery goodness.
Tableware, and a peculiar fork...
Close-up of the fork, are the ridges to help the pasta wrap around it much easier? Or is it used to cut things?
Pizza with Pepperoni, Mushrooms and Bacon. Base price of the pizza is $6.00, Pepperoni ($1.50 USD), Mushrooms ($1.00 USD) and Bacon ($1.50 USD)

Sorry! Just felt like taking a lot of pizza pictures! The pizza was all right, I like the ability to customize it. I didn't care much for the taste, not enough flavor and a less than spectacular tomato sauce.
Kristian got the Bolognese Pasta ($8.50 USD), and correct me if I'm wrong, he also added some shrimp to the dish ($2.00 USD)
Here's a shot of the shrimp, they aren't too generous with the shrimp...
Fork shot!

Tarako Spaghetti - Spicy ($11.75 USD), I also decided to add bacon ($1.50 USD)

Close-up of the crisp bacon. I dislike very crispy bacon, and this is what it was. I was hoping it would soften up in the sauce, but it didn't. And I must say, I don't care for the bacon they use. It doesn't have a good smokey taste, I remember it being very tough and untasty.

Fork shot! I love tarako spaghetti, it's such a great dish. Other than the bacon, I did enjoy this dish! I felt the portion was a bit small...considering I didn't want the bacon which really bulked up the dish.

Hey Noreen!
That's a great observation, I must agree. Their presentation of their dishes are also very Japanese. I've been meaning to try the spicy ahi spaghetti, but I'm still trying to shake the not being on sushi rice thing...haha

Bruce enjoyed the spicy ahi spaghetti and I usually get one of the spicy penne pasta dishes. Lots of flavor! I don't think Pietro's thing is to pile on lots of sauce and toppings...reminds me of Japanese cooking.

I really want to try that raw potato salad! Of course I would be the only one eating it...so I will hold off for now.

Kristian likes it meaty. Got it. Hahaha, well glad you were a bigger fan of the food than me. It's nice to have the feedback!

Hi Nate!
Very happy to be back! And now that you point that out, many places do mix the sauce in already. I guess I'm not picky either way...

Good to see you back!
That's the way I like to have my pasta - sauce over the top without tossing together beforehand by the kitchen.
