01/17/2008: "Nihon Noodles"
I must grab my chance to review a new restaurant! Since this is a fairly new blog, I tend to do repeat reviews of other blogs...but I don't think I have seen a review for this restaurant just yet! It is a newly opened ramen shop that I ABSOLUTELY love. Let me share with you my experience so that you can fall in love as well...
Restaurant Sign.Click here for more pictures and the full review...
Specializing in Hakata, Sapporo and Tokyo style noodles.
Simple menu, simple food. You all should know how I feel about special...
Here's how the tables and chairs look like. The shop isn't that spacious, but I like that.
Another view of the restaurant.
We ordered their shrimp with garlic butter sauce ($4.95 USD). The taste was wonderful, we were a bit disappointed about how little we got for $5.00 though...
Up-close shot of the shrimp...
Six piece Yokohama Gyoza ($3.75 USD), your usual serving of gyoza.
Nori ($6.75 USD). This dish comes with medium thin noodles made with real seaweed served in a shoyu broth.
Their homemade char siu...
Funny story, when Kristian first got this dish...we thought is this the nori part of the dish? The garnish? We didn't get a good look at the noodles yet...but I'm sure if you look at the pictures now...you can totally see the color of the noodles!
Yummy menma topping...
Ah-ha! The noodles are revealed...
Noodles shot! What a perfect one, captured the great noodles, nori and sesame seeds!
Nihon Trio ($8.95 USD), a perfect dish to try as a beginner! You get to try all three specialties! Here are the three different broths.
Shoyu broth up-close...
Hakata (Tonkatsu) broth up-close...
Last but not least, the Sapporo (Miso) broth...
Here are the three different noodles, ready for consumption...
Here are the Hakata style noodles, thin noodles garnished with Beni shoga (shredded red ginger). These noodles go into the tonkatsu broth.
I'm not completely sure about the next two noodles, but I'm pretty sure these noodles were for the miso broth. They are the thick noodles and they were wonderfully chewy (in a good way!)
Here are the medium thin noodles that are served with the shoyu broth...
They also give you three pieces of char siu for each style...pretty good! It's definitely not the same as other places, but I did enjoy it.
Noodle shot - Sapporo Style!
Noodle shot - Hakata Style!
Noodle shot - Tokyo Style! So there you have it. My visual review of this restaurant. I really enjoyed everything here. The service was great and the food was delicious. I even enjoyed the Shoyu broth...I never like shoyu broths from any restaurant! I didn't expect it, but my favorite broth was the Tonkatsu broth. The noodles are firm, so people who like local style might not enjoy it as much. Kristian didn't, I did. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Hey Nate!
I have never been to Anyplace, but I did see it as I was going to Nihon! Looked real busy! Good thing nihon noodles has spots designated just for their restaurant! I will try Anyplace one day I'm sure...

OK, I'll make a serious attempt to go. Discovered it's in the same parking lot as Anyplace Lounge.
You ever been there? Real local-style bar with fanatastic pupus and food. Recommend you try there for the eats!

Thanks for the comment Kristian! See, we eat at so many places that I'm getting them interchanged. I'm going to still stick with their noodles being more firm...than soft...since they seem to be very authentic with their cooking styles. But we will see next time huh?
I don't know what to try next time, I would like something new. I can't wait until we go again...hahaha

wait...i don't remember the noodles being firm (i think that was at that italian restaurant that had it firm). but anyway, the noodles were very flavourful. tasted a lot like nori, that's for sure. a subtle taste. oh yeah and the shrimp was really good. shoot, i'd still order it again even if it's $5. haha.
i hope the restaurant stays open for a long time. i kinda wanna try what you had. you seemed to have enjoyed it a lot.
