02/18/2008: "Ichiriki Restaurant"
Hello everyone! I hope you guys are still sticking with me in this time of transition.
I have still been eating out, but have not been able to update as much as I would like. But don't lose faith in me yet!
Here is a recent visit to a wonderful Japanese Nabe (Hot-pot) restaurant. They are very busy, but we were very lucky that we didn't have to wait too long. It was well worth the wait anyhow! So here is the review:

Loving the decor...
Here is the waiting area for your table. We ordered our drinks and appetizers and enjoyed them out here. When our table was ready, they transferred our food to our table.
Pretty light...

Plates for your appetizers
Cheese Yako ($3.95 USD)
The cheese yako is pretty good, I think I enjoy the one from Gyukaku a bit more though. Just being able to throw the cheese quickly onto a hot grill...creates this really nice soft and smoky flavor that I enjoy.
Chicken Karaage ($4.95 USD)
Looks a bit flour-y...but didn't taste underdone at all!
Mayonnaise and Sriracha Hot Sauce
You can't have chicken karaage without a sprinkle of lemon juice!
A shot of the hot-pot "booths"
What you see if you look up...haha

Ichiriki Kami Nabe ($43.95 USD) - Serves Two
The hot pot in progress...
Here's a picture of the full spread, each person gets one of these!

This nabe includes a shoyu flavored soup stock that is served with sixteen different ingredients (Chinese cabbage, Bok choy, Leeks, Enoki, Eryngi & Shiitake Mushrooms, Tofu, Kuzukiri (transparent noodles), Aburage (fried tofu), Chives, Gobo, Beef, Sausage, Scallops, Shrimp, Tsukune Meatballs (what you see in the bamboo stick!)
Here is the tsukune meatball...
Nabe action!
Here is the little strainer they give you to skim off the yuckies...
I didn't get a picture of the ramen beforehand, sorry! But they bring you the ramen just as the meal is winding down...you throw the ramen in the broth and enjoy! So the rice comes first and the ramen last.
Ujikintoki ($4.95 USD) - Shaved Ice with authentic green tea with azuki bean and mochi balls.

Okay, this dessert sounds delicious...but unfortunately, it's not. The whole dish lacked in flavor completely! They serve it in a small bowl and perhaps didn't think about the fact that this big mound of ice would melt. It melted and overflowed onto the table a few times. As we dug through, we finally found some green tea ice cream in a big block of ice...and that was very good.
