05/21/2008: "Ocean Sushi - Hilo, Hawaii"

With all the research I did for my trip to Hilo, Ocean Sushi was an impulse meal. We felt like eating some sushi and spotted this in downtown Hilo so we went for it. So how was it? And by the way, happy 100th post! smile

Ocean Sushi Menu...

Decided to get a small appetizer of Shrimp Tempura ($3.00 USD), it was pretty good!

Ahi Poke ($5.00 USD)

This poke was very good, but not worth $5.00!

Ahi & Salmon Chirashi ($8.95 USD)

That's a pretty good price for a chirashi dish, although the fish pieces were a bit lower quality.

Chirashi dishes come with a bit of ahi poke and spicy tuna! You can't beat that. smile

Deluxe Chirashi ($10.95 USD)

This was a pretty good chirashi! And I gotta tell you, when they brought this out, just about everyone in the restaurant glanced at my dish. I even had two people asking me what I ordered, they seemed very interested. smile

All in all, it was a pretty good experience. The service isn't great, they are very busy. It also took quite a while to get our food, but it was also because it was busy I suppose. I'm sad to report that I did have a bit of stomach issues after eating here so I questioned the freshness a bit (especially in the ika).

Thanks Kristian! Nope, unfortunately, Hilo doesn't have a lot of sushi places (not that I saw). I was recommended a place, but I didn't get to try it! smile
