05/27/2008: "Ken's House of Pancakes - Hilo, Hawaii"

I love diner digs, and this is no exception. I heard great things about this place, and it didn't disappoint! I visited twice. smile It's like Hilo's Anna Millers, only Ken's is much better! Let's check out what I had.

The sign to look for when you are driving down Kamehameha Avenue

Cute restaurant sign

Busy busy busy restaurant interior shots

Ken's Menu

The Original Loco Moco ($6.25 USD)

You gotta break the yolk and let it ooze everywhere!

2 scoops rice, 5 oz. beerf patty, brown gravy and 2 eggs. You can't beat this, I can see why Ken's is known for their great loco moco.

Saimin ($6.65 USD)

Typical saimin garnishes

Teriyaki Chicken Stick

Noodles shot! This saimin comes with a teriyaki chicken stick, char siu pork, egg garnish, fish cake and green onions in a shrimp broth. Very delicious!

Eggs N' Things with Portuguese Sausage ($7.85 USD)

My love for portuguese sausage is deep, this should be popular in all restaurants that sell breakfast

Eggs over easy...yummy

Buttermilk Pancakes, Eggs N' Things comes with 2 eggs, rice or hash brown and your choice of buttermilk pancakes or toast.

Same dish but with scrambled eggs and hash browns...

Breakfast in Hawaii is not complete without rice, so here it is! Side of rice ($1.50 USD).

Close-up of the hash brown

Another shot of the great sausage...

Yummy eggs, not so much scrambled...but close enough. smile

Ken's is a MUST visit for anyone visiting Hilo! They offer a huge variety of great food and are open 24 hours a day! You can't beat that kind of food and service. Highly recommended!

Hi Scott! Thanks for the tip on parking. Luckily for me, both times I found a spot in the crowded lot. Did you end up parking on the street both those times? satisfied

Love this place, but the parking can be a big challenge. The last time I was in Hilo I tried on two different days to go to Ken's but the parking was full both times sad
