07/15/2008: "YC's Mongolian Grill - Tempe, Arizona"

YC's Mongolian Grill invites you to experience a unique and delicious dining experience. At YC's Mongolian Grill you "create your own stir-fry," selecting from the freshest and healthiest of stir-fry ingredients. During my stay in Arizona, I really wanted to try some great places to eat that we wouldn't find here in Hawaii. I came across YC's Mongolian Grill on a review site and decided to give this place a try, how did the food turn out?

Isn't their sign cool?

It is basically a buffet bar of a lot of vegetables, frozen meats and seafood and different types of noodles. They also have an assortment of sauces you can choose from. I wasn't sure what to do but the helpful manager asked me a few questions about what I liked and created a sauce for me! Here is the picture of my food before cooking...pile it on! It'll definitely cook down.

When your bowl is complete, you head over to the cooking station and hand it over to the chef. He stands over a giant grill (looks like a giant crepe stand) and starts cooking your food!

The grill is very hot and he cooks my noodles in the matter of minutes, he also keeps adding liquid to the dish...I assume it's water. Here he is scooping my food into a clean bowl, look at those huge chopsticks!

When you are handed your food, there are additional condiments and sauces to use. I added a whole bunch of cilantro, can't get enough of that stuff!

Noodles shot! For dinner, you can enjoy a bowl of these noodles for $10 USD, or all you can eat for $11 USD. You can stuff a lot into a bowl, so I definitely suggest the $10 deal. I had to take more than half back to the hotel with me. By the way, they charge 50 cents for a take-out container. I was a bit taken aback when they told me but was given free containers because it was our first visit. smile

The food was all in all pretty good. I think it was a great deal at $10.00 but the actual taste was pretty mediocre. They also have side dishes like soup and frozen yogurt. I had a taste of their chicken noodle soup and it was incredibly salty and just inedible. But the noodles were good and the sauce the manager made was wonderful!

Hi Noreen, I haven't seen one around or heard about anywhere like this. That's too bad, maybe someone will open one again one day! smile

Do you know if Mongolian BBQ is still around? Used to be in Kaimuki right on Waialae Ave. but I don't know if they just closed their business or moved elsewhere.

Hi Lori! Yes, I agree! I was a bit afraid when I first picked it because it looked very hard, but it turned out very good! smile
