06/09/2009: "Toraji Yakiniku"

Hey guys! Sorry for the short hiatus again! I was sick for a bit and it took me a while to get back into the swing of things. If you ever drive down Kapahulu, you will definitely notice Toraji's restaurant sign. The sign is actually what made me want to try them out! I had seen it many times in between my trips to Safeway and Genki and decided to try it out one day. The food and service were great, the parking...what parking? But we'll get to that later...haha

The sign I'm talking about!

Click here for more pictures and the full review...

Toraji doorway...

Wow, I took way too many exterior shots...

Table settings...

The rest of the dining area...

Isn't that neat? I loved it! My napkin had pockets for my wet wipe and chopsticks, I'm easily amused.

Different dipping sauces for you to partake in, just like Gyukaku!

Toraji Menu

Side dishes and a peace sign, we always come in peace.

Kimchee

Bean sprouts

Kimchee Daikon

Pickled Daikon(?) - I think it is...

Oh geez, I'm going to need help on this guys...

Yum! Cucumber!

Choy Sum, one of my favorites!

The salad that came with our meal, it was pretty good!

Our meal also came with the lettuce and sauce to make our own wraps...smile

Actually before I go further, we ordered a set together. It's called the Honolulu Set and it costs $60.00 (USD) for two people. Our main dish consisted of Kalbi, Big Shrimp and Chicken. Here it is! - Ouch! Update: I just checked their website, their Honolulu Set for two is now up to $89.50 (USD)!

Cooking, in action!

Hmm, I can't quite remember what this plate of meat was. Did we order this separately? Maybe Kristian will have a better memory than me...

This set also comes with a starch, we went with the Korean Cold Noodles

Noodle shot!

Okay, Kristian and I usually choose rice with our sets but since we ordered rice separately, which is why we got the cold noodles instead. Here is the rice dish we ordered, Ishiyaki Seafood Butter Rice $8.75 (USD)

Delicious...

The Honolulu Set also comes with your choice of dessert. I choose the Creme Brulee...

Creamy...

Kristian's dessert, I think it was a vanilla pudding...

All in all, I really enjoyed my experience at Toraji. The food is great and the service is on point. I enjoyed all the foods we had, but if you plan to come here, be prepared to spend! The set alone cost 60 dollars (now 89.95!)...and then we went for some extras...so we spent quite a bit. It is definitely worth it, so I highly suggest you try it out! The parking lot is extremely small...and well...each spot is back to back so the chances of you being parked in is big. I came pretty early so I found a spot very easily. However, when it came time to leave, I was blocked into a very hard spot to get out of. Kristian had to direct me out...for a while. If you can find street parking that would be great...this post is making me hungry. It's also making me want to check them out again! Enjoy!

Thanks for the review! I always drove past there wondering how it was. Everything looks really ono, too bad it's on the expensive side.
